When I Keep Failing God

Welcome, Dear Friend

Honest Confession:

There are days when I feel so distant from God.  I want to honor Him, but instead I lose my temper, I curse, and I walk away from the peace He offers. Lately, I haven’t even written — four weeks have passed without a post, because I’ve felt unworthy to share anything.

Scripture Anchor:

Romans 7 reminds me that I am not alone in this struggle:

“I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway… Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? Thank God! The answer is Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:19, 24–25 NLT)

Even Paul, an apostle chosen by God, wrestled with repeated failure.  His honesty comforts me — because it shows that weakness is not the end of the story.

Reflection: The Cycle of Failure and Grace

My failures remind me that I cannot save myself.  I cannot “try harder” enough to erase my temper or my words.  But Jesus can.  He rescues me, again and again, with His forgiveness and His grace.

When I feel distant, it is not because God has moved away.  It is because I have turned my eyes elsewhere.  Yet even then, He is near — ready to restore me when I return.

Encouragement for the Heart

If you’ve been feeling distant from God or ashamed of your own repeated failures, know this: you are not alone.  God is not surprised by our weakness.  He is near to the brokenhearted, and His mercy is new every morning.

Instead of hiding in guilt, we can choose to return.  Not because we are perfect, but because Christ is perfect.  Our words may be flawed, but His Word is flawless.

Reflection Questions

  1. When have you felt distant from God, and what helped you draw near again?
  2. What repeated struggle or failure weighs most heavily on your heart right now?
  3. How does Romans 7:24–25 encourage you to look to Christ instead of yourself?
  4. What small step could you take today to return to Him — prayer, journaling, worship, or simply being still?

From My Heart to Yours

Friend, I share this not as someone who has it all together, but as someone who stumbles often and still finds grace waiting for me.  If you are walking through this same struggle, I invite you to join me in turning back to Him today.  Let’s confess our failures honestly and then lift our eyes to the One who delivers us. Together, we can walk in grace — not perfection — trusting that “Thank God! The answer is Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Until next time,

Caryn
